Kashagan, an offshore oil field located at the north of the Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan sector (approximately 80 km south of the town of Atyrau), was discovered in July 2000. A group of major international oil companies led by Agip will develop and commission the field. Water depth of the field is barely 4 m while reservoir contains 45?API oil with associated sour gas (up to 23% H2S).

GATE, a partnership of Tekfen and Gama, have undertaken the construction works of the Kashagan Power Generation Plant that will supply electricity with the onshore oil processing and export terminal at Eskene West, Atyrau. The installed capacity of the (Agip owned) Power Plant will be 238 MW.

GATEs scope of works cover all construction activities in civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation disciplines with the exception of HVAC and pipe insulation works.

Mechanical erection, alignment, final alignment, and pre-commissioning of:
- 4 Gas Turbines and their Generators in the range of 35-45 MW
- 2 Steam Turbines and their Generators of 35 MW (equivalent)
Piping, fabrication/erection: 71.000 WDI
Piping, painting: 7.800 m2
Electrical, cable pulling: 373.000 m
Instrumentation, cable puling: 123.000 m
