TAG Motorway is the largest project implemented by Tekfen within the scope of a single contract. The project’s scope covers the design, construction and one year maintenance of a 258 km motorway and 46 km of connection roads between Tarsus - Pozantı (intersection) - Adana - Toprakkale and Gaziantep, located at southern, mountainous area of Turkey, connecting fertile lands of Harran, Şanlıurfa and agro-industrial Çukurova Area with Mediterranean ports while standing as a safe and modern crossroad extending towards the near-east and Gulf countries.

The first 28 km portion is built as a 2 x 4 lanes motorway while the remaining (major) part consists of 2 x 3 lanes. 14 viaducts with a total length of 5.232 m (in one direction) and 5 double tube 3 lane tunnels with 5.352 m total length (in one direction) including one cut and cover tunnel, are constructed within the same scope.

The TAG Motorway, which crosses the most complex geological formations encountered in the region and probably in Turkey, the Nur and Amanos mountain chains, part of the Toros Mountains, is designed and built in accordance with the highest existing international standards. Tekfen Engineering Co., Inc., an affiliate of Tekfen Holding, undertook major responsibilities in the design works of this challenging project.

Tekfen’s Steel Structure Fabrication Plant located at Ceyhan was fully operational with its two workshops at the end of 1993. Its inital major task was fabricating the steel decks of various roadbridges up to 1.200 m length for TAG Motorway.

THE VIADUCTS
The TAG Motorway encompasses 14 viaducts with a total length of 5.232 m (in one direction). The two special viaducts built between Bahçe and Kömürler regions are among the highest and most impressive structures of Europe and the Balkans Area.

THE TUNNELS

TAG Project consists of 5 double tube tunnels with a total length of 5.352,50 m (in one direction) 4 of which are built with the “New Austrian Tunnelling Method” (NATM) while the fifth one, a 300 m long Tunnel, built by “Cut and Cover Method”.
