Tekfen Construction, which has been engaged in a number of major infrastructure and industrial projects in Qatar since 2005, has completed the 'Al Khor Expressway' Project - which according to the agreement signed with the State of Qatar was due to be completed within 36 months - one year before the guaranteed date. The contract for the construction of the Al Khor Expressway is the largest ever signed at one time by the company.
The opening ceremony of a portion of the Expressway by Qatari Prime Minister Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani was attended by Selahaddin Menteş (Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Turkey), Fikret Özer (Turkish Ambassador in Doha), Cahit Oklap (Tekfen Holding Group Companies President), Ümit Özdemir (Tekfen Holding Consultant) and Alpaslan Sümer (Tekfen Construction's Senior VP), as well as by the project team.
On the occasion, Cahit Oklap said that since 2005, Tekfen had signed contracts worth a total of 4.9 billion US Dollars for 10 separate projects in Qatar in different areas such as pipelines, industrial plant, superstructure and motorways. "This motorway is of critical importance for the 2022 World Cup," he said. "We at Tekfen Construction, will continue to represent the Turkish contracting industry with pride on the international platform."
The new expressway, and which is to link the various stadiums of the 2022 World Cup, is to begin operating at full capacity at the end of 2019. It will have a total length of 34 km, with 5 lanes in each direction; in addition, it will have 10 intersections, 8 bridges, 15 pedestrian tunnels and 27 cycle tunnels.
