Uzbekistan is well known as a country which lays on the ancient ''Silk Road'' and famous for its garments throughout the world. As the world's second largest cotton exporter, Uzbekistan is overhauling its ginning industry and plans to process half its cotton fiber domestically by 2005.
The scope of the project undertaken by Tekfen Construction and Installation Co., Inc. covered turnkey construction of a cotton spinning mill consisting of five buildings on an area of 21.000 m2 at the city of Pap, province of Namangan, Uzbekistan.
Presently the plant is fully operative with 5.600 t / year cotton spinning and 3.900 t / year yarn production capacity under the ownership (60%) and management of Tekfen Group.
Machinery-Equipment of the cotton spinning mill were thoroughly supplied by HMB - Hallesche Mitteldeutsche Bau AG, Tekfen's affiliate in Germany, under the Hermes guarantee scheme.
Commissioning, personnel training and start-up operations of Papfen Cotton Spinning Mill were also undertaken by Tekfen under the same project scope.
Today, roughly 80% of the company's total cotton yarn production is exported to Turkey through the marketing organization of Tekfen Foreign Trade Co., Inc.
