The Khurais oilfield development is the largest of several Saudi Aramco projects intended to boost the production capacity of Saudi Arabia’s oilfields from 11.3 million bpd to 12.5 million bpd by 2009.
The Khurais project as a whole covers three oil fields: Khurais, Abu Jifan and Mazalij. The Khurais field, with an area of 2.890 km2 and 127 km long, located about 250 km southwest of Dhahran and 300 km north southeast of Riyadh, is the biggest in the project. Abu Jifan covers 520 km2 southwest of Khurais and Mazalij covers 1.630 km2 southeast of Abu Jifan.
There will be four injection plants with capacity of over four million barrels of treated seawater per day. FEED works have been completed by Foster Wheeler.
Tekfen has been awarded Khurais Water Injection Facilities and Utilities Project, Mechanical Works, Package-1 and Package-2 by Snamprogetti of Italy acting as the EPC Contractor for Aramco in February 2007. The works cover steel erection for the main pipe rack as well as other pipe racks and structures, piping & support fabrication and erection, fire water system, erection of equipment & machinery including boilers, turbines & utilities, hydrotesting and painting & insulation.
