Rabigh, a new industrial zone under development, is located on the Red Sea coast, about 150 km northwest of Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Tekfen has been awarded civil, mechanical, piping and structural steel works of the Utilities and Offsites Umbrella (UOU) scheme and civil, mechanical, piping, structural steel, electrical and instrumentation works of the Utilities and Offsites Package No 1 (UO1) scheme of the Rabigh Development Project.
The client, PETRORabigh Refining and Petrochemical Co. is a 50/50 joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical Company of Japan. The client representative for the UOU and UO1 are Foster Wheeler Arabia Ltd. and Hitachi Plant Technologies Limited respectively.
The main works for the UOU Project and the relevant quantities are as follows:
• Civil works do comprise 1.159 off Bored Piles,
• 90.000 m3 of excavation,
• 42.000 m3 of reinforced concrete,
• 27 km of Underground Piping Works,
• 1.230 m of a 3x3 Discharge Box Culvert,
• 8.000 precast,
• 5.250 cast-in situ-pipe sleepers.
Mechanical works do comprise supply, fabrication and erection of 9.400 t of pipe rack and structural steel and implomentation of 400 km of aboveground piping works (360 km of carbon steel + 40 km of stainless steel) together with equipment erection works for 180 off equipments including drums, vessels, tanks, LPG vaporizers and pumps.
The main work activities for the UO1 Project are the followings:
Civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works of
- 5 Cooling Towers,
- 1 Air Separation Unit,
- 1 Incinerator Unit,
- 1 Wet Air Oxidizing Unit,
- 1 Compressed Air Station,
- 1 Seawater Intake Facility and
- 1 Sulphur Forming- and Ship Loading - Unit.
