The project scope covers construction of a plant to expand the diesel and other light products capacity of İzmir Refinery, by converting fuel oil into lighter fractions through hydrocracking and distillation processes. The project was successfully completed earlier than the scheduled date.

The crude oil processing capacity of the refinery was increased by 5 million t / year with the expansion scheme.

The plant consists of following process sections

Hydrocracking Unit,
Vacuum Distillation Unit,
Hydrogen Unit,
Visbreaker Unit,
Gas Amine Unit,
Sulphur Production and Sour Water Scraper Units,
Turbine Generator and New Power Distribution Center.

Annually

Gas Oil production was increased by 280.000 t,
Gasoline and Naphta, by 260.000 t,
Kerosene and Jet Fuel, by 200.000 t,
LPG production was increased by 80.000 t,
The decrease in production of fuel oil was 1.000.000 t.

The following engineering works were also performed by Tekfen

Revision of P & I Diagrams of off-site piping,
General piping arrangement drawings and isometrics,
Civil and structural detail designs,
Preparation of technical specifications, data sheets and MTO lists,
Supervision of electrical and instrumentation works.

Tekfen Engineering Co., Inc. and Tekfen Manufacturing and Engineering Co., Inc. were also responsible for major portions of the project. While Snamprogetti SpA overtook procurement of main units, columns and drums were manufactured in Turkey by Tekfen.
